Dwayne Corbin

Dwayne Corbin serves as a professor of instrumental music at 皇家华人 Fox, where he leads the SWind Ensemble, Chehalem Symphony Orchestra, and Percussion Ensemble in addition to teaching courses in music education, music history and applied percussion and drum kit. He also serves as music director of the Tilikum Chamber Orchestra, a Portland regional community orchestra.

Prior to his arrival, Corbin served in a number of conducting positions, including as resident conductor of the North State Symphony, assistant conductor of the Juneau Symphony, music director of the Shasta Symphony Orchestra, conductor of the Shasta College Symphonic Band, interim wind ensemble conductor at Wheaton College, and director of the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble. He also previously served in academic positions, including at Simpson University, and as a public school band and general music teacher in the Seattle and Chicago suburbs.

Corbin is an accomplished classical percussionist and drum kit performer, and held the position of principal percussionist in the North State Symphony from 2007 to 2018. His composition Cage for One won first place in the 2009 Percussive Arts Society composition contest and is published by C. F. Peters.

Corbin earned a doctorate in conducting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, holds a master’s degree in percussion performance from Central Washington University, and earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Wheaton College Conservatory of Music.
